Inspiring insights and exciting presentations
“Jessica Wittmann’s lecture was informative and inspiring – really interesting!” These and similar quotes could be heard in the foyer of the Rosenthal Theater Selb on Monday, February 24, after the lecture by well-known researcher Jessica Wittmann. With her lecture “MINT up your life: simply save the world”, she inspired the young audience and showed how scientific innovations can contribute to solving global challenges.
Over 280 students from twelve regional grammar schools, technical and vocational colleges and secondary schools were welcomed to the Rosenthal Theater at 9 a.m. by Ulrich Pötzsch, Mayor of Selb and patron of the Selb STEM Day. Pötzsch emphasized the importance of STEM subjects (mathematics, natural sciences, computer science and technology) and encouraged the students to take advantage of the day’s diverse offerings.
Dr. Roman Pausch, Managing Director of RAPA, then welcomed the day’s guest of honour, Jessica Wittmann, on behalf of all participating companies. The researcher from Hof reported on her career and gave the young audience valuable inspiration to get excited about STEM and become active. In her interactive presentation, she emphasized the topics of opportunity, future and purpose and encouraged the students to think about the opportunities that STEM can offer for their own future.
After the inspiring lecture, there was the opportunity to visit various companies in the region on excursions. Successful local companies such as Lamilux, Rehau, Sommer, Linseis, Kyocera, BHS tabletop, Netzsch and Textilverarbeitung Drechsel, as well as RAPA itself, opened their doors and offered the young people an insight into technical professions and behind the scenes of modern technology companies. The European Center for Dispersion Technologies (EZD) also took part and provided information about its work and services.
Due to the high level of interest, we are still looking for companies that would like to enrich the MINT-Tag with additional excursions. Interested companies are welcome to contact the organization team.
